Cinnamon, Cedar, Carols & Choirs This December ORIANA is delighted to share the stage with the young singers of Lawrence Park Collegiate Concert Choir, conducted by our own Artistic Director, William Brown, and with Beverly Johnston (marimba), Andrew Morris (drums), and Leslie Newman (flute).
The music presented in this concert will be bracketed by three lively arrangements of the well-know carol, Patapan. The first arrangement opens the concert, with both ORIANA and LPCCC on the stage. This Patapan is an a cappella setting in the contemporary style by William Brown. The first half continues with recent works by renowned Canadian composers Stephen Chatman, Eleanor Daley, and Mark Sirett, and compositions by Vincent Persichetti, Paul Carey, and Don Michael Dicie.
The second half of the concert begins with another arrangement of Patapan, this time by Reginald Unterseher, presented by ORIANA and LPCCC. Our young guests will then sing alone, before ORIANA once again takes the stage to present three spirituals arranged by Daryl Runswick. To celebrate the release of our fourth compact disc (see below) ORIANA will conclude this year’s concert with a reprise of five selections from the disc. The concert will conclude with both choirs rejoining to present one last arrangement of Patapan, by Kirke Meechem.
The evening will surely be an inspiring mix of modern and traditional; sacred and secular; familiar and refreshingly new.
This concert will also be the official launch of ORIANA's newest CD, Cinnamon and Cedar: a compilation of popular secular Christmas music.

Hymns for Hers
We look forward to welcoming spring with “Hymns for Hers.” This celebration of all things bright and beautiful presents traditional and contemporary arrangements of songs of praise, many of which include audience participation. The joyful music will be enhanced by musical guests Michael Bloss (organ) and Leslie Newman (flute).
Following ORIANA’s mission of promoting the creation of new Canadian choral music, this concert will feature the premier performances of six commissioned arrangements: All Creatures of Our God and King by Eleanor Daley, Fairest Lord Jesus by Leonard Enns, Be Thou My Vision by Ruth Watson Henderson, and Praise My Soul by Jon Washburn. John Beckwith and Derek Holman will also be contributing new works.
The concert also includes arrangements by Robert A. Harris, Gordan Jacob, Kirby Shaw, Sjolund, Lani Smith, and Mack Wilberg, and original compositions by Aaron Copland, Srul Irving Glick, and Z. Randall Stroope.

The Music of Irving Berlin
ORIANA is looking forward to returning to the Jane Mallett Theatre, this time to present a selection of the music of Irving Berlin. The catchy tunes and intricate rhythms of Berlin’s songs have delighted both young and old for decades. The music will come alive again with the help of fabulous guest artists Jan Giles (voice), Victor Bateman (string bass), and Andrew Morris (drums).
Many composers have arranged Berlin’s music. We will present arrangements by Besig/Price, Roger Emerson, Hayes, Mac Huff, Ed Lojeski, and Kirby Shaw. We expect to hear a theatre-full of tapping feet as we present many well-known tunes, including: Puttin’ On the Ritz; Blue Skies; Top Hat, White Tie, and Tails; Cheek to Cheek; Sisters; Alexander’s Ragtime Band; and There’s No Business Like Show Business.
ORIANA plans to send you on your way humming
